Kelly's Take on Art Class First Blog

Hello readers, my name is Kelly, and I will be the name behind the writings on this blog. I was born and raised in Alaska and resided there until the last few months when I relocated to Washington. I got married in September and my husband is in the army so that has taken us on this new adventure, and that is what it has been from someone who does not like this much change, but it is all about adaptation. I am majoring in Biology now in the hope of getting into a medical program after. I have worked in healthcare since I graduated high school so when I have thought about changing careers, I do not know what else I would be happy to do. In my spare time I am very into the outdoors including hiking, camping and fishing, traveling is a huge passion, and exploring all the coffee shops in my area. I have two labrador retrievers who are also my companions during all my free time, their names are Hershey and Willow. I would describe myself as someone who is open to all new opportunities and this blog journey will be new but something I will adapt to learning how to make the most out of the experience and hope you enjoy it along the way.

My relationship with art has not always been as significant as the connection to it now is, which I would describe as thriving now. I would not say my parents were big into art or being immersive in my childhood, but my aunt is a painter and taught me a few tricks to the art world when I was in high school on a summer trip while visiting. I never picked up the painting part myself today, but I love spending time in art museums and just recently went to the glass museum in Tacoma. I am purchasing my first home here in a few weeks with my husband, and the desire to get art pieces and make it more of a creative outlet on my own personal walls is strong. The first Fridays were a big thing that we attended as well when we were in Alaska, going out to the event space that was hosting one where there would be different venders and other small business and all the people that would come together for them were great. Now being in this area of Washington that I am in now where all downtown Olympia or Tacoma which is on either side of where we are going to be living, is full of art and creative outlets that have workshops and shows I feel are happening all the time and would keep you busy if you really wanted to see it all. Recently I did go to a paint pottery where I painted an ornament and serving dish how I pleased and thought that was a good way as a small template where you can make it your own.

  3. Congratulations on the new chapter in your life. I got to attend a museum first Friday in Seattle. It was amazing. There were cars that were hung from the ceiling with a stick of lights coming out similar to a porcupine.
